My Journey to Supervision

I began my professional life as a chemical engineer. Ordained in the Anglican church in 1985, I have served in parish ministry and in theological and ministry education and leadership since 1989.

As a member of more than twenty boards, I have picked up sophisticated skills in governance, strategic planning and risk management.

My life's calling has been to equip leaders in ministry and service, which has now expanded to include education and governance.

My journey into Supervision

I wish I had discovered supervision earlier in my professional life. I contributed to the design of a number of postgraduate supervision courses during my higher education career. Eventually, it was time for me to become qualified as a supervisor.

Now, I equip leaders in ministry, education and governance sectors to be courageous and trust themselves to be hope-filled risk-takers in their professional lives.

I use my experience in professional life (including successes, failures, bouts of impostor syndrome, depression and burnout) to support professionals like you.

I have built a well of empathy and have learned how to challenge and encourage myself and others.

Testimonials

"John's wide experience in ministry, matched with his approachability, combine to make him the best of supervisors. For me, our engagement has been, and remains, wholly enjoyable.”
(Jon, Senior Minister, Victoria)

“I appreciate our supervision sessions very much and already feel somewhat less burdened by talking it out.” (Katie, Chaplain, NSW)

“I have benefited hugely from John’s wise supervision. Not only does he ask great questions, but he brings good humour and sincere concern to our sessions. 10/10 would recommend!” (Andrew, Lecturer, Melbourne)

Specialist Supervision Services

Ministry and Chaplaincy

Those in front-line ministry tasks and leadership thrive when they know who they are in living out their role. Space to explore this and ponder opportunities and life transitions, review self and family care, and look at skill development are important aspects of supervision in this area,

Educational Leadership

How structures and relationships are understood and negotiated makes a significant impact on success in educational leadership. The Caterpillar’s Question, “Who are you?” opens discovery and shapes directions.

Governance

Governance is… Exploring self-understanding in the complex demands of setting strategy and curating organisational culture opens up opportunities for growth in influence and satisfaction. Self-management of personal and professional risk through clear ethical accountability is also a regular topic of engagement.

My supervision skills in education and governance allow me to assist emerging educational leaders in their journey.
